Welcome
to our little piece of the internet world!!!
Deer
Run Winery is located in Geneseo, New York, on the western
side of Conesus Lake and about 25 miles south of Rochester.
The winery was founded by George and Joan Kuyon in 2002.
In 2001, the first steps in establishing a vineyard were
taken with the planting of vines on two hillside acres.
The building, which houses our tasting room, party room
and wine production areas, was completed in 2003. When
the doors opened to the public on November 23rd, we offered
five varieties of wine.
Deer
Run has grown over the years, thanks to our customers.
The vineyard has expanded to five acres; we've added a
second tank room, another storage area and now produce
many different wines and styles of wines, some award winning,
others crowd pleasing.

We offer social
and educational events throughout the year and encourage
everyone to come to these events. Each year a guest chef
prepares an incredible multi-course menu designed to showcase
our wines. Wegmans stops in each spring to offer some
of their great food paired with our wines, and we host
several concerts during the summer months. In 2011 we
added a harvest festival in the fall, and expanded our
"Meet the Vendors" day which was a great experience
(thank you to everyone who took the time to stop in and
to our vendors for their time!). We've got a few other
events in the works for the slow, cold winter months too,
so check back here or join our
email list to stay in the loop!

|
Lastly, let
us extend a thank you to those customers who have discovered
our wines and repeatedly come back for more. If you haven't
visited us, we hope you will come by for a tasting, tour
our gift shop or participate in one of our special activities.
If you can't come in, you will find our wines in many
liquor stores in the Rochester and Buffalo area...we have
a listing on our home page under "where
to buy our wines."

THE
WINERY DOGS

Papi
|
|
This
bundle of energy belongs to Jo, one of our tasting
room associates. He is an extremely friendly mini-goldendoodle,
greeting all who walk through the doors by leaping
in the air and will readily give doggie kisses.
You can find him at the tasting room when Jo is
working or sometimes at farmers markets as well.
Papi has been with us since July 2009, starting
his career at only 10 weeks old.
|

Jo relates one funny Papi tale:
"Best
story was a busy day when he must not have been
getting much attention he took his ball up to the
balcony room and dropped it down, narrowly missing
the people at the end of the tasting bar, luckily
they thought it was funny and of course gave him
the attention he was looking for."

Ellie
|
|
Ellie
is our behind the scenes winery dog. Scott and Emily
adopted her from Lollipop Farm in July of 2008.
We (Scott and Emily) were unaware of what we were
getting ourselves into with this powerplant of energy.
Ellie LOVES to run in the vineyard, chasing whatever
moves. She is a great help in the vineyard, keeping
smiles on our faces and scaring off most if not
all living creatures in the vines. She has also
graduated to Assistant to the Assistant Winemaker.
She loves to chase the air bubbles in the hoses
when we are working with the wine.
|

Although she seems a bit intimidating (due to her
size and constant state of readiness), she is great
with people and loves kids. One afternoon a mother
and her 2 younger children came to visit the winery
when Ellie was inside, and we got to talking with
the mom, forgetting about the kids and Ellie. Things
were a bit too quiet, so I tip-toed to the doorway
into the party room, only to find Ellie sprawled
out on the floor with the little girl, both just
smiling and playing quietly together.

Max
(April 24, 1995 to September 23,
2007)
|
|
Our
best-selling wine's namesake. Max was a constant
companion to the Kuyon family for 12 years, helping
out in the tasting room and greeting customers for
our first four years of operation. His small size
and constant napping sometimes made him invisible
to our customers, until anyone stepped near the
food samples!!! We had a small party for him when
we first released Max Black, our best-selling wine
to date, and in typical Max fashion he paraded around
the tasting room, somewhat aloof, greeting only
those who had food and napping the rest of the time
near the door.
|

We all miss Maxwell, and think of the little guy
whenever we look at the doormat (his favorite napping
spot) or order labels for his wine. We like to think
the little guy is still around, helping out in the
tasting room by cleaning up the crumbs.
